18, 2001 - Temp Chat 1! I
realized today that, for someone who runs a temping website, I don't even
really know that many temps. In fact, I don't know any
temps. So, I decided to go out and meet some! Well,
not out as much as on. I jumped online, connected to
DALnet on IRC (a chat program), and started poking my virtual head into
different channels (or rooms), in search of some temps to become
friends (or buddies) with. Shockingly,
it didn't go well. I've
posted some partial chat transcripts below. In them, I appear as
<notmydesk>, and you can see how hard I tried to assimilate
myself into these foreign environments, to make friends, and to find
