May 1, 2002 - Temp Chat 11!  Say Cheez!

Advertising.  It's everywhere!  And there's so much of it!

For example, I watched a baseball game today.  In addition to the regular commercials between innings and the ads placed throughout the stadium, every single graphic, statistic, out-of-town scoreboard, update, recap, instant replay, strikeout, and homerun seemed to have a sponsor.  It's at the point where I'm starting to think a player scratching himself will bring up a whirling graphic for Lotrimin AF.

Just an example in case you haven't seen a game recently: In the seventh inning, the starting pitcher started losing his stuff, and they showed a shot of the dugout.  The pitching coach went and picked up the bullpen phone to call in the reliever, and the announcer said "And here's the BellSouth call to the bullpen!"  Then, when they actually changed pitchers, the announcer said "Remember, when it's time for a change, bring your car to Jiffy Lube!"  Then, the reliever kicked at the dirt on the mound to get his footing, and the announcer said "Looks like he's kicking at weeds, or perhaps he has athlete's foot, or needs new socks, or is suffering from stress!" and rattled off a list of products that could help with those particular needs.

So, I'm just wondering how long it will be before regular people like you and I start advertising things.  You know, corporate sponsorship for normal folks.  At a party, you wouldn't introduce your self as "Betty", you'd introduce yourself as "Betty, brought to you by Blockbuster Video!  Wow, what a difference!"

Thought I'd give it a whirl online first, since I never get invited to parties and since my name isn't Betty.  I decided to make Cheetos my official sponsor, and made my nickname CHEETOS_Chris.  Let's watch!
